Francis A. Willey est un artiste canadien qui vient de gagner le troisième prix de la photographie à Paris, dans la catégorie du livre fine art. Il est à la fois photographe, compositeur et poète. Il a déjà publié trois livres dont le primé Ghost, et est à l'origine d'une communauté artistique : SEITIES, qui permet à des photographes d'exposer et d'être publiés, et d'un magazine, dont le premier numéro sortira en novembre : Unbound Morpheum. Voici donc l'interview d'un artiste très prolixe et accompli !

~ Hello Francis ! Can you tell us a bit about yourself ? (Bonjour Francis, pouvez-vous vous présenter un peu ?)
Self education autodidact photographer, composer and poet. Artistic advisor/co-curator for SEITIES studio. Father of Identical twin girls, Sophia and Agatha.
Je suis un photographe autodidacte, compositeur et poète. Egalement conseiller et co-curateur pour SEITIES. Père de deux jumelles identiques, Sophia et Agatha.
~ You are an "environmental film photographer", can you explain your job for us ? (Vous êtes un photographe écologiste, pouvez-vous expliquer votre travail ?)
I create all my art using film and developing and making prints in my darkroom using the Verdant Luminul environmental printing/developing process. My job is to have a positive environmental approach to creating art, out of respect for maintaining the beauty of the world. I don't want the art I create to pollute the earth and lend strength to the longevity of the artist.
Je créé tout mon art en utilisant du film photo et en développant et faisant les tirages dans ma chambre noire, et j'utilise le procédé de tirage et développement Verdant Luminul. Mon boulot est d'avoir une approche écologique positive pour créer de l'art, par respect pour le maintien de la beauté du monde. Je ne veux pas que l'art que je créé pollue la terre et qu'il ne contribue qu'à la longévité de l'artiste.

~ Most of all, you are a photographer, a musician and a poet. How do you manage to do everything ? (Mais surtout, vous êtes photographe, musicien et poète. Comment arrivez-vous à tout gérer ?)
People make time for the things they truly love, that in It self is the beauty of life.
Les gens prennent du temps pour les choses qu'ils aiment vraiment, c'est ce qui fait la beauté de la vie.
~ As a musician, does music influence your poetry and photography ? (En tant que musicien, est-ce que la musique influence votre poésie et votre photographie ?)
More in the reverse, I would say the poetry and photography influence the music.
Plutôt l'inverse, je dirais que la poésie et la photographie influencent la musique.

~ You play the piano, why did you chose this instrument ? (Vous jouez du piano, pourquoi avez-vous choisi cette instrument ?)
The instrument chose me, when I was a young boy I walked into a museum and there were baking fresh bread and an older woman was playing Beethoven on a small upright piano and the combination struck an emotional connection for me to start playing piano and composing music.
L'instrument m'a choisi, quand j'étais un jeune garçon je me suis promené dans un musée, et il y avait du pain tout frais et une vieille femme qui jouait Beethoven sur un petit piano droit, et ce mélange me toucha assez pour que je commence à jouer du piano puis à composer.
~ What are your inspirations in general ? (Quelles sont vos inspirations en général ?)
My daughters, my partner, friendships. Mythology, Antiquities and nature.
Mes filles, ma partenaire, mes amis. La mythologie, les antiquités, la nature.

~ How do you create ? Do you have special moments, musics, and themes that make you write and compose ? (Comment créez-vous ? Avez-vous des moments spéciaux, des musiques, et des thèmes qui vous aident à écrire et composer ?)
Melodies appear to me. When I'm waking or driving or in my dreams. The syncopation of life brings rhythm and music into everything.
Les mélodies m'apparaissent. Quand je marche ou conduis, ou dans mes rêves. La syncope de la vie apporte du rythme et de la musique dans tout.
~ A part of your photographic work is inspired by some myths, what are they and why did you decide to represent them ? (Une partie de votre travail photographique est inspiré par des mythes, quels sont-ils et pourquoi avoir décidé de les représenter ?)
Great stories, myths or folklore create great art.

~ And you clearly seem inspired by the Pre-Raphaelist movement, what appeals you in this art ? (Et vous semblez clairement inspiré par le mouvement préraphaélite, qu'est-ce qui vous attire dans cet art ?)
Solidarity of the vision of the group and movement. It's based on wonderful poetry and as a poet I have always been fascinated by the romantic, pre-raphaelite and the art nouveau periods.
La solidarité de la vision du groupe et du mouvement. Elle est basée sur une merveilleuse poésie et en tant que poète, j'ai toujours été fasciné par l'art romantique et préraphaélite, et par l'art nouveau.

~ You are also a founder of SEITIES, an art gallery. Can you present what Seities really is ? (Vous êtes aussi un des fondateurs de SEITIES, une galerie d'art. Pouvez-vous expliquer ce qu'est vraiment SEITIES ?)
SEITIES is a non profit organization that I contribute to by advising and co curating. SEITIES works to support international analogue artists who use traditional photographic processes. SEITIES Studio is a publication, gallery and educational foundation.
SEITIES est une organisation a but non lucratif à laquelle je contribue en conseillant et en tant que co-conservateur. SEITIES travaille à soutenir des artistes internationaux analogues qui utilisent les procédés photographiques traditionnels. SEITIES studio est à la fois une publication, une galerie et une fondation éducative.
~ Finally, what are your projects for this autumn (exhibitions, books, concerts, etc) ? (Finalement, quels sont vos projets pour cet automne (expositions, livre, concerts, etc) ?)
I'm working on releasing my 3rd photographic book Mythos, which is a portfolio of male and female nudes. Releasing my second book of poetry Heart of Fire and annual art publication titled Unbound Morpheum as well as preparing for international Month of Photography in Denver in March 2015 and SEITIES 5th publication -The Nude.
Je travaille à la sortie de mon troisième livre photographique, Mythos, qui est un portfolio de nus masculins et féminins. Vont paraître mon second livre de poésie Heart of Fire et une publication annuelle intitulée Unbound Morpheum, et je prépare également l'international Mois de la Photographie à Denver en mars 2015 et la cinquième publication de SEITIES : The Nude.
